The Dow Chemical Company has an exciting and challenging opportunity for a Project Engineer located in Newark, Delaware.

The CMP business as part of the Electronics and Imaging business (E&I) in the Specialty Products Division is a world leader in the electronic materials markets. The E&I, CMP Engineering Sciences group supports the development and improvement of equipment used in CMP manufacturing and R&D facilities.

The Project Engineer works closely with E&I manufacturing sites to execute equipment related technical projects aimed at addressing equipment problems and/or improving equipment performance in the form of increased throughput, reliability or process yield. Projects may be small, involving only individual effort, or larger, involving multi-person teams. This role also provides equipment related subject matter expertise to the plant sites in the applicant’s specific area of expertise.

Job responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

Interfacing with manufacturing site engineers and leadership to identify improvement opportunities and conceptualize and design improvement projects.
Building, leading and driving cross-functional teams required to execute project. Including identifying required competencies and working with site and other CMP leadership to secure both internal and contract resources required to engineer and implement the final solution.
Working directly with manufacturing operators / technicians to execute technical work.
Management of project scope, schedule and budgets.
Identification and contract management of contract engineering resources.
Execution of technical work on projects in his/her specific area of expertise.
Stakeholder communication, both internal and external, in the form of formal presentations and reports and informal day-to-day communication of team progress as needed.
Approximately 10% travel. Possible overseas travel to Taiwan, China and Japan.
Required Qualifications:
A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Electrical Engineering is required.
A minimum of 5 years of engineering work experience in a manufacturing environment is required.
Working knowledge of core engineering disciplines such as strength of materials, heat transfer, fluid dynamics, machine dynamics and statistics is required.
Project management skills are required.
CAD experience is required.
A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.
Preferred Qualifications:
Being a subject matter expert in one of more of the following areas is strongly preferred:
Machine design and specification
Web handling and coating systems (winders, unwinders, slitters, web conveyance systems, roll handling systems, die coating)
Chemical processes and processing equipment
Process automation and control systems
Mechanical drive systems
Electromechanical system design
CAD proficiency with Pro/E or Solidworks and AutoCAD is preferred.
Computer modeling capabilities in the fields of stress analysis, fluid dynamics or heat transfer.
The ability to work on multiple (2-3) projects simultaneously.
Practical engineering expertise with demonstrated skill in solving complex technical problems.
The ability to interface with site engineers to generate, define, and develop relevant technical programs.
The ability, knowledge, and experience “to frame a problem” and determine what competencies and specific techniques must be applied to deliver results most effectively.
Ability to lead through influence.
Conflict resolution skills.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Interpersonal, leadership, and networking skills.
The ability to work as a team member in a respectful manner in a diverse work environment.
